Tupac Shakur took the stage at the Coachella music festival this past weekend and has stirred up some controversy in the process. Does this mean that we can look forward (or with disdain) to seeing performances by Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, or the Beatles? Though the idea may be tempting, there is a certain amount of exploitation that one can argue here. Namely, that the legacies of these artists are being reincarnated soley for the purpose of a performance. There is no doubt that the special effects used in these holographic images is impressive, but there's something to be said about the timeless factor of our deceased favorite artists and how their live performances were moments to be remembered and perhaps left in peace.

This Saturday marks the 20th anniversary of one of the most iconic punk rock bands of all time. Nirvana debuted their landmark album, 'Nevermind' on September 24, 1991 and redefined rock n' rock for an entire generation. Selling more than 30 million copies, Nirvana's raw and honest music style provided an unlikely anthem to a disillusioned generation. The word 'grunge' became not only a musical form, but a fashion movement. Honor Nirvana this weekend, rock your flannel shirts and greasy hair...a nod to the crispy Seattle weather, ha...smells like teen spirit...

It's been several long, silent years since we've heard from our boys. With unfortunate situations surrounding the Beastie's the past few years (MCA's battle with cancer, dead-end film projects and cancelled tours), the Beastie Boys are finally back from the boroughs delivering a supersonic assault packed with flavor and hot in all the right places. With their first studio album since 2007's The Mix-Up, the long awaited Hot Sauce Committee Part Two is seasoned with overtones from some of the Beastie's best years. At first listen, it's easy to pick out the overt nods to early albums like Check Your Head, Ill Communication and Hello Nasty on songs like OK, Say It and Lee Majors Come Again. But give another listen to cuts like The Larry Routine, and you'll hear nods back to Paul's Boutique and Licensed to Ill. The album starts off strong with Make Some Noise (sure to be blaring from every frat house once school is officially out) and carries the listener though a smorgasbord of aural excitement. Sixteen tracks deep, this album delivers and packs the heat (Extra Spicy).

Bonnaroo turned ten years young and rolled out a lineup worthy of the celebration. Named one of the 50 moments that changed the history of music by Rolling Stones, it has come a long way from jam bands and camping out on the lawn. Not to worry, though. Pitching a tent is the the only way to soak in all the flavor of the festival. The lineup was eclectic and epic ranging from indy favorites to country crooners. If the fact that Eminem shared the same musical universe with Loretta Lynn doesn't blow your mind, you need to check your pulse. Standouts for us were: Girl Talk, Wiz Khalifa, Arcade Fire, The Black Keys, Mumford & Sons, Cold War Kids, The Strokes, Sleigh Bells and Man Man. My Morning Jacket closed the festival down on Sunday same as they did on the final day ten years ago. Who said the guys at Bonnaroo aren't sentimental?
Tell us about your Bonnaroo experience. Who did you want to hear? Tent, RV, or hotel?
